Student choice 2 : Portrait - Period 1

This is my second student choice picture. It is a portrait of my best friend Bethany.

I was attempting to do a fashion shoot, but I ended up doing this angle by standing on a chair and looking down at her. With the strop light, I was able to get this half-shadow on her face. I photoshop, I burnt the shadow on her face to make it darker, along with the edges of the piece.

What I am trying to depict is the dark side to every person. No matter how innocent or how pretty they are.

Self Portrait - Period 1

This is my self-portait to show my quirky personality and awkward demeanor, but revealling a darker side to me.

I used the strobe to capture the picture and I burnt the shadow in photoshop to darken it and clearly show it.

I feel like no one truly knows the real me, who hides behind a smile and who tries to be cute to please everyone around me, but hiding who I really am. I'm also wearing my favorite pants and one of my favorite flannel prints.

Diane Arbus Inspiration - Period 6

Diane Arbus is the inspiration for this piece. I didn't choose a photo to imitate, but just her overall awkwardness in the pictures was the inspiration behind this. It was a great experience to try and be like the great Diane Arbus.

I used Christine C. as a model as we were sitting on a bench. I told her to just to make a face like me and we resulted in this. Unfortunately the camera focused in on her arm in the foreground no matter how much I adjusted the zoom. But I enjoy how it ended up.

In Photoshop, I made the image black and white and adjusted the curves, making the shadows darker and more vibrant against christina's white shirt. I also burnt the background a bit to make the white brighter.

Insecurites - Period 1

These are two portraits of mine. The first half of the picture, is of the person themselves and then the ther half is of something they are insecure about.

The first one is of Florence, who is insecure about her height, so I tried to make it look like she was super short by only taking a picture from her nose up. The second one is of Jane, who is insecure about her smile. So I just did a close up on her smile.

By doing this, I want to show that everyone has insecurities and that you shouldn't be ashamed of them. I want to contnue on with this series, so we'll see what happens later on.
