Burning House - Period 6

For the burning house assignment, I chose only one item to display that I'd save from my house. That being my cat, Zoe. She is far more important than any other possession I could think of. I though about this for a long time and time and time again I thought about her.

The quality of the photo isn't the greatest because I don't have a camera at home, so I had to use my phone's camera. Also a factor was how she wouldn't sit still for more than a second. It was frustrating and I almost gave up when she finally looked up at me.

Period 1 - Conceptual Image

This is my conceptual piece for this class.

I took a picture of a broken tree, being kept together with a ribbon and then I used a stock of climber to add onto the tree, as if they were climbing up the tree. That's when I noticed the spider web n the back and decided to make it so the climber was like the spider making the web.

I was trying to portray a feeling of determination and that someone can acheive whatever they want if they try hard enough.

Truth about someone - Period 6

This assignment wasn't an easy one to do. It took me just a long time to figure out a model, let alone what I was going to do. When it came to it, I finally used Anna as a model. We went out and took picture to try and capture what she told me. She said that despite looking innocent, she is tough and can be a bitch.
I took a series of different shots and ended up being most satisfied with this shot.
In photoshop, I cropped the image and dropped the contrast and saturation. The white of her outfit symbolizes her innocence, as a common worldly symbol for innocence. The knife symbolizes her toughness.  I tried to fix the focus onto the knife, having it's darkness against the white.
In the end I am pleased with this shot.

Student choice 2 : Portrait - Period 1

This is my second student choice picture. It is a portrait of my best friend Bethany.

I was attempting to do a fashion shoot, but I ended up doing this angle by standing on a chair and looking down at her. With the strop light, I was able to get this half-shadow on her face. I photoshop, I burnt the shadow on her face to make it darker, along with the edges of the piece.

What I am trying to depict is the dark side to every person. No matter how innocent or how pretty they are.

Self Portrait - Period 1

This is my self-portait to show my quirky personality and awkward demeanor, but revealling a darker side to me.

I used the strobe to capture the picture and I burnt the shadow in photoshop to darken it and clearly show it.

I feel like no one truly knows the real me, who hides behind a smile and who tries to be cute to please everyone around me, but hiding who I really am. I'm also wearing my favorite pants and one of my favorite flannel prints.

Diane Arbus Inspiration - Period 6

Diane Arbus is the inspiration for this piece. I didn't choose a photo to imitate, but just her overall awkwardness in the pictures was the inspiration behind this. It was a great experience to try and be like the great Diane Arbus.

I used Christine C. as a model as we were sitting on a bench. I told her to just to make a face like me and we resulted in this. Unfortunately the camera focused in on her arm in the foreground no matter how much I adjusted the zoom. But I enjoy how it ended up.

In Photoshop, I made the image black and white and adjusted the curves, making the shadows darker and more vibrant against christina's white shirt. I also burnt the background a bit to make the white brighter.

Insecurites - Period 1

These are two portraits of mine. The first half of the picture, is of the person themselves and then the ther half is of something they are insecure about.

The first one is of Florence, who is insecure about her height, so I tried to make it look like she was super short by only taking a picture from her nose up. The second one is of Jane, who is insecure about her smile. So I just did a close up on her smile.

By doing this, I want to show that everyone has insecurities and that you shouldn't be ashamed of them. I want to contnue on with this series, so we'll see what happens later on.

Landscapes- Period 1

These are my two landscapes.

The first one if a close up of a tree's leaves right as the sun was hitting it over the top of a building. It was the perfect moment to do so. I focused in on a close up set of leaves, leaving the further back leave out of focused. I then took the image into photoshop to up the contrast and blurred the back leaves even more.

The second image i did the same concept, except before the sun peered over the hill in the early morning.  It was of a dead plant, and all i did in photoshop was up the contrast, brighten the image and then uped the saturation by two points.

Paul Strand- Period 6

Paul Strand was my inspiration for this first assignment. I admired how he used shadows to create an inter esting composition, using film. I tried mimicking the shadow effect using a metal door with indents in it and used a tripod to create the straight lines interjecting into the light.

I had so tree interferrance with the picture and it was early in the morning so the light wasn't strong enough to make a strong shadow. But i'm satisfied for now with the result. I may come back later and redo the image.
